Tiago Antunes has a long and diverse professional record in the fields of law and policy. Along with his academic career, he has held public office for several years, in different capacities and often with a strong connection to the European Union. He has served as Secretary of State for European Affairs (2022-2024), working directly under the Prime Minister to steer the participation of Portugal in the EU. Before that, he held the positions of Secretary of State Assistant to the Prime Minister (2019-2022), responsible for the internal coordination of the Government and its communication, and Secretary of State for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (2017-2019), in charge of the Government’s law-making process. Beyond his multifaceted experience in the Portuguese Government, he has also worked at the European Parliament (2016-2017). He has a PhD in Law from the University of Lisbon, where he has been a member of the Faculty since 2001 and is a Researcher of the Lisbon Public Law Research Centre (LPL). He has authored an extensive number of publications, namely in the fields of Environmental, Administrative, Constitutional and European Union Law, and is regularly invited to speak at conferences and seminars, both in Portugal and abroad.
