Thijs Reuten has been a Member of the European Parliament in the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats since 2021. He is active in the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. He is engaged in the topic of EU enlargement, working to promote the preparation of candidate countries for accession the European Union. Earlier, Thijs Reuten was district administrator and councillor for the city of Amsterdam, and political advisor in the field of foreign affairs. She regularly provides expert commentary on national broadcast media; past appearances have included BBC Today programme, Channel 4 News, LBC Cross Question and BBC Newsnight. She has written for a range of online and print publications, including the Guardian, Prospect, and IPPR Progressive Review, of which she was a founding editor.
