Sara Nanni has been a member of the German Parliament for Alliance 90/The Greens since 2021. She has been involved in green politics on a voluntary basis since 2006 and was spokesperson for the Green Federal Working Group on Peace and International Affairs from 2015 to 2020. In the German Parliament, she has been head and spokesperson of the Working Group on Security, Peace and Disarmament, chairwoman of the Defence Committee as well as of the 1st Committee of Inquiry on Afghanistan since 2021. She is also a member of the Interparliamentary Conference on the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy. Sara Nanni has been a member of the Heinrich Böll Foundation's New Security Policy Forum since 2019.
