Jeremy Cliffe

Writer and Commentator, Germany/UK

Jeremy Cliffe is a writer and commentator based in Berlin. He worked for eight years at The Economist, serving as Bureau Chief in Berlin and Brussels and writing the weekly Bagehot and Charlemagne columns. As International Editor of the New Statesman he established and led the magazine's global affairs team, as well as writing and broadcasting widely on European politics and foreign policy. In 2023 he joined the Open Society Foundations as Special Advisor and Chief Speechwriter. He is a Fellow at the Center for the Governance of Change at the IE University in Madrid and was educated at Oxford and Harvard universities.
