Diego Martínez Belío was appointed State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs on 19 December 2023. He holds a Law degree from the Complutense University (Madrid) and the Sorbonne University (Paris) and a Diploma in Advanced Studies (DEA) in International Economic Law from the Sorbonne University. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 2007. Since July 2021, he has been the Director of the Cabinet of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. Previously, he had been Director of the Cabinet of the State Secretary for the European Union and an advisory member of the Department of European Affairs and G20 in the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government.
