Thorben Albrecht is an internationally acknowledged expert on the future of work, who has worked for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and several trade unions throughout his career. He was also a member of the Global Commission on the Future of Work established by the International Labour Organisation. From 2014 to 2018, Thorben Albrecht was the State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, where he introduced one of his most important legislative projects, the introduction of a statutory minimum wage in Germany. He also launched the “Work 4.0” dialogue - a public dialogue on shaping quality jobs in the digital age and, as State Secretary, he was a member of the German Government’s IT Council and the “digital agenda” steering group.
